Programs and Volunteering
LITA's volunteers bring love, laughter and ongoing friendship to residents of long-term care facilities, many of whom have no other visitors.

Your contribution will go a long way towards helping LITA recruit, match and orient volunteer friends with isolated elderly and disabled residents of skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and board and care homes.  Thank you for your care and concern.

We can best support your facility's residents when we work together to identify residents who would benefit from a LITA Volunteer.

Who We Are
Since 1975, LITA Marin has provided friendship and support to the elderly of Marin County, California. As a nonprofit, we have more than 300 volunteers of every age that bring a tender heart and a listening ear to long-term care facility residents. LITA establishes friendships for someone who may be alone or does not receive regular visitors.

Mission Statement
The mission of LITA is to improve the quality of life for persons living in skilled nursing facilities, residential care facilities, and retirement residences throughout Marin County by providing volunteer visitors. LITA promotes friendships that lessen isolation and loneliness, and increase public awareness of the needs of residents of long-term care facilities.

California Volunteers Service Enterprise
In 2013, LITA was named a California Volunteers Service Enterprise (CVSE). A Service Enterprise is an organization that leverages volunteers and their skills across all leadership levels, and in all departments, to successfully deliver on the social mission of the organization. While nonprofits continue to face an environment of doing more with less, the most successful organizations excel in volunteer engagement practices that lead to greater organizational capacity and community impact.

LITA Annual a la Heart Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction

The annual LITA a la Heart fundraiser dinner and silent auction was held on Saturday, September 10 at The Club at McInnis Park in San Rafael.  A special thank you to our guest speaker: Lee Pullen, Director of Adult Aging Services for Marin County's Health and Human Services, and our Master of Ceremonies, Dan Noyes, Chief Investigative Reporter for ABC7 News KGO TV.

The Aline Shaw LITA Angel Award was presented to Bobbie Bukszar, Rolling Hills Club.  Established in 2012, The Aline Shaw LITA Angel Award recognizes an individual or organization within the community for outstanding effort in promoting or supporting LITA's mission.

Bobbie has been the Director of Guest Services at Rolling Hills Club for over twenty years.  She heard about LITA's Holiday Gift program through an ad in the newspaper and wanted to support older people and thought that this program would be a good fit for her as she said that she loves visiting with older people.

Once she found out more information about the Holiday Gift program, she posted signs at her Club about the program and members immediately responded by bringing new gifts in to the Club.

It is clear that Bobbie has a deep empathy for seniors by turning her thoughts into action.  As Bobbie said, "Most people want to help and there is a lot of need for help with seniors."  "The gifts we gather for this program are very practical and people can really use the gifts."

Last year, over 750 new gifts were distributed to LITA designated seniors living in long-term care facilities. Otherwise, many of these seniors would not have received any holiday gifts.  It's people like Bobbie that have made it possible for LITA to reach out to the people who need us the most.

LITA is very grateful to Bobbie for her generous and thoughtful support!
